First Independent Film Project

Project Goal:

To write, design, and produce a 30 minute Independent CGI 3D R rated Animated Horror Short (Tentatively Titled Dark Places)

We hope to produce three different versions of the film so that all can get involved: A Beginner skill level Film, an Intermediate level film, and an Advanced level film.

Software to be used:As much as possible I would like to keep this an Open Source Based Project. I understand that many of us use Photo Shop and other paid 2D Graphics Editing Software to produce Texture Mapping etc… this is acceptable just make sure you save your files in standard Graphics Formats; JPG’s, GIF’s, PNG’s. Main animation to be done using Blender, Daz Studio 3D, Project Make Human and any other quality open source 3D software (I am always open to suggestions).

Project Outline

Stage 1 Writing and Storyboard

Everybody is welcome to write and submit a script and storyboard based on the Dark Places Movie Trailer.(See Bottom page for Trailer) These will be placed on SlightlySick University’s Home Page and a link to the authors’ web site and E-Mail. This way all can comment and vote on which ones they think are best. Final submissions must be submitted by October 15, 2008. Voting will close on October 25, 2008 and we will post the winning script on Halloween!

Stage 2 Casting

Now that we have a story we will need our cast of Characters. This is your chance to show your 3D modeling skills, submit images of your best Animate-able Character or Create a new one just for this movie. Acceptable files, obj’s, Blender files, DAZ Studio ready characters, (I will refine this list soon). As we receive submissions we will feature them and a small write up about the character and designer and a link to the designers web site and E-Mail. This way everybody can vote and express their opinion. Submission dates and closing of voting dates coming soon.

Stage 3 Set Design

This will be another great opportunity to Showcase your 3D design skills. Submit your best 2D backgrounds or renderings of your best 3D scenes that you think will fit in the movie. As we receive submissions we will feature them and a small bio on the designer and a link to the designers web site and E-Mail. This way everybody will be able to vote and express their opinion on which designs and themes best fit each scene. We will then choose the winning scenes and now we will have the general set for the movie.

Stage 4 Filming/Animating

All winning files will be available for download (depending on designer some may include a licence only to use on this project others might give you an open licence to use for whatever. Using a file for anything other than this project requires special permission from the author!) You can use these files to create your interpretation of the story board scenes. As we receive submissions we will feature them and a small bio on the designer and a link to the designers web site and E-Mail. This way everybody will be able to vote and express their opinion on which scenes are best for the movie.

Stage 5 Editing.

All winning files will be available for download (depending on designer some may include a licence only to use on this project others might give you an open licence to use for whatever. Using a file for anything other than this project requires special permission from the author!) you can use these files to Edit and create your interpretation of the story board scenes. This way everybody will be able to vote and express their opinion on which is the best version of the movie.

Debut and Distribution Plan

As this project is still in its infancy and thus in the early planning stages, all suggestions are welcome. We will be featuring the top three winning movies on Slightly Sick University and we will be submitting them to as many independent film contests that we can.

Everybody who has work used in the Film will receive credit in the Film and a link to their website/E-Mail address on the films feature page on SlightlySick University.
